“Life is a good teacher and a good friend. Things are always in transition, if we could only realize it. Nothing ever sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about. The off-center, in-between state is an ideal situation, a situation in which we don’t get caught and we can open our hearts and minds beyond limit. It’s a very tender, non-aggressive, open-ended state of affairs.” – Pema Chodron

Those of us fortunate enough to experience the change of seasons and weather bear witness to the preciousness of time. As colorful blossoms and spring greens emerge, we can reflect on the ever-evolving nature of impermanence.

One of the tenets of Yoga practice from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is non-attachment. Despite this, I have had the 'privilege' of unwittingly testing the premise of impermanence with unsuccessful attempts at attaching to jobs, poses, relationships, and many other things. I say ‘privilege’ because as each attempt to attach fails, I come closer to an acceptance of impermanence’s truth, and understand how non-attachment can help us to more fully embrace the ebbs and flows of life.

Through years of teaching and practicing, I've come to understand that one of the biggest and most valuable gifts we can give ourselves and our wellbeing is to subtly shift our perspective towards accepting and staying open to life's changing nature. It's not about perfection but about showing up, practicing again and again with intention, and embracing the journey with an open heart.

My last retreat to Peru was a profound opportunity to remember our inherent goodness and our deep interconnectedness with nature and each other. While experiencing awe-inspiring and humbling moments, we move with gratitude and intention, strengthening our capacity for openness and presence.
